Amazing. That is really all that could be said for the amount of effort, thought, and money that fans at Anime Central have put into their costumes. While I have seen cosplay to some extent in the past, never before have I been as amazed as I was Friday April 27th 2012 at Anime Central.
While there are plenty of costumes that I saw numerous times throughout the day, there was also a good amount of unique costumes that I saw being worn by only one or two enthusiasts. So many people had incredible and accurate costumes, it was hard to get quality photos of all the different people in costume that I wanted to. Even with my mind running wild while jumping from one awesome photo-worthy moment to the next, the man with the Camera (A.K.A. Ron) did an awesome job of keeping up. Below are a few of the photos I got a kick out of seeing on my first ever day at ACEN.
Two-Face |
Two-Face happened upon me early in the morning while I was enjoying a cigarette before an early rush arrived. Seldom have I seen a Two-Face in cosplay, but the few times I have they haven't been nearly as impressive.
Barry Burton |
Having grown up playing the Resident Evil video game franchise, I loved running into an awesomely costumed Barry Burton, equipped with his Magnum and gruff attitude. Hell of a job having an accurate, high quality looking costume from one of the greatest games of my childhood.
Pee-Wee Herman |
Now no party is started until Pee-Wee Herman arrives. Such an abundance of childhood memories, this cracked me up. What a great costume idea that I have not seen too often.
Judge Dredd |
Dressing up as any of Sylvester Stallone’s roles is always awesome to see. While I am sure this Judge Dredd is indeed taller than Stallone’s, it is still a great looking costume. Be careful, he is the law!
Two Sims |
I was hoping they would answer with some unintelligible gibberish when asked for their picture, but even without that minor detail these ladies nailed their Sims costumes. Very creative idea and they pulled it off very well.
Squall |
I have no problem seeing someone decked out as Cloud with his epic Bastard Sword, but I was as giddy as a school girl when I saw this awesome Squall. Complete with a metallic Gunblade that pretty much screamed out “Don’t F*** with me.”(I believe I saw him later without this awesome piece of hardware, he probably wasn't meeting weapons regulations) It is so awesome to see someone else appreciates Squall and Final Fantasy VII’s somewhat forgotten follow up.
Daphne and Velma |
You can never go wrong when two pretty ladies dress up in any kind of cosplay, but it is at least a thousand times more awesome when they're dressed up as Velma Dinkley and Daphne Blake from Scooby-Doo! Well done ladies, well done.
Sheik and Link |
While seeing a Link roaming the convention floor is not that rare of a site, a Sheik was definitely a welcomed surprise. It brought me back to the days of getting my rear end handed to me in Super Smash Brothers Melee. So many lives lost to that sneaky woman!
Ash |
With Boomstick in hand and chainsaw arm, Ash was every bit as awesome as if the actor was the actual Bruce Campbell….. Well, maybe not that awesome.
These were just a few of many awesome costumes on display at opening day for Anime Central 2012. What a great day to be among the fans that attended from all around the country.

Velma here--thanks for the feature, and great pic (if I'm allowed to say so myself, haha!).
