Marvel Heroes Launching: Heroes and Action Galore!!!

.
Captain America, Spider-man and Ms. Marvel take on Venom

The time has finally arrived. Marvel Heroes is set to make an official launch on Saturday, June 4th. While many of you out there may not be getting too excited about the launch of a Free to Play online video game, the depth and quality of Marvel Heroes is enough to make most change their minds about what to expect from a F2P (free to play) game. With well known video game developer David Brevik leading the way, Marvel Heroes has similar hack and slash qualities to Brevik's earlier projects Diablo and Diablo II.  With the already sound game play qualities of the Diablo series, some overhauled graphics, and a continually increasing Marvel roster to choose from, so far Marvel Heroes has impressed me more than I predicted.

Unlike some games that start off as a pay to play experience and then change to the free to play due to dwindling subscription numbers (I.E. Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic,), Marvel Heroes was created to be an action role-playing adventure that anyone can play for free. Many “free to play” games do not in fact allow the player to play the entirety of the content without eventually paying, this is yet another trait that makes Marvel Heroes stand out. Players do have the option to purchase characters or costumes using real money, but it is possible to find every character and almost every costume in the game by looting the bodies of  your fallen foes. Some slight bonuses such as increased gains in experience and rare item drops can be purchased, but these bonuses are by no means a necessity to enjoy Marvel Heroes to the fullest extent.

Some game play similarities exist between characters in the game, but for the most part the unique attributes and play styles of different characters allows for a player to enjoy completing all the missions available multiple times. I found myself enjoying Cable and Hawkeye most of all, mainly due to my personal interest in characters that excel using ranged attacks. With that being said, I still found myself having a grand old time playing as some of the different melee characters offered, specifically Spider-man, Colossus, and Wolverine. Overall the incredibly unique traits of all the characters I tried made me not only want to play through the game with each character, but it also makes me eager to play through the game with every character they provide. With plans to consistently put out more characters, Marvel Heroes truly has the feel of a pay to play title while having the benefit of having the cost of a free to play video game.

When it comes down to it, if you happened to be a fan of Diablo and Diablo II, there is no reason you should not take the time to check out Marvel Heroes. If you are a fan of Marvel Comics, then why not go on an epic and thrilling journey as your favorite super heroes while fighting the likes of Doctor Octopus, Magneto, and Dr. Doom? If you are not a fan of Marvel and have not played Diablo, well, Marvel Heroes is still worth picking up and what is the worst that can happen? You definitely wont lose out on any of your hard earned money.

UPDATE: New information on early game access.

  1. Be sure you only use this as Free to Play, they are not ready for prime time as a game or as a company. The failed early access launch yesterday was severely mismanaged, the game launcher directed players to the launcher and website for updates which were hours apart all the while they were updating info on Facebook and twitter.

  2. this game blows. it sucks compared to diablo series considering its made by david himself. it sucks compared to path of exile.

crafting is like 10 years behind. tedious. items do not stack. manual drag and drop into the boxes. no multiple queue. no smart checking.

its a pay to win cash grab game.
